Biography

Smt. D.Pattammal had her early tutelage in carnatic music under Smt.Sethu Bai a disciple of Tiger Sri Varadhachari, Veena Vidwan, Sri Varadhaiyah, Pozhakudi, Sri P.V.Ganesa Iyer, Sri Kalakkad Ramanarayana Iyer and Smt. D.K.Pattammal.

As a young musician in the early fifties Smt D Pattammal won many prizes in competitions held by Music Academy, Indian Fine Arts, and other organizations competing with stalwarts like Sri Seerkazhi Govindarajan, Smt Palani Vijayalakshmi, Smt Sulochana Pattabhiraman.

She was a graded artiste performing for the All India Radio for over 30 years before she took up composing songs in Tamil.

She has translated Sri Jayadeva's Geetha Govindham into Tamil and developed it as a dance drama under the title 'Madhava Geetham'

She has composed the lyrics for Thiruvilayadal Puranam, Kumarasambhavam, Sri Harisaram and the life history of 63 Nayanmars.

She has also composed songs exclusively for little children and beginners under the title 'Karnataka Isai Thuvakka Padalgal'

In all she has composed 658 songs in Tamil, including songs in rare ragas like Rukmambari and Sukapavani as well as songs set to the Panchanadai and drimadhyamam beats
